A day out hunting with the Four Shires Bloodhounds
This weekend was the meeting of the Four Shires Bloodhounds, a wonderful day that is quite different to fox hunting as they are hunting a human runner!
You can read more about this here on their website – http://www.4shires.co.uk/index.php/about-us/what-to-expect
Having the chance to photograph something like this is wonderful, especially when you are a horsey person anyway and your friends are also out there riding in the hunt!
We spent the day whizzing around in the car to keep ahead of the hunt, park up, run around to get some wonderful photographs!
It was such an incredible turn out, I think the beautiful sunny weather helped!
Seeing all of these incredible animals flying past, it was like stepping back in time, but then again parts of the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands have that effect. Streak across the middle a line of hunters and people dressed up smart in their Sunday best and the dogs, well, the effect was amazing, as I have tried to capture in these photographs.
The great thing about this type of hunting is that is is great for people of all ages and experiences. The jumps are all optional, so no worries about jumping great stone walls, although, as quite a few did, you still can!
Including the dogs!
All in all, it was a wonderful day, fantastic company, very well organised, any falls or loose horses were sorted perfectly, the route was very well planned, it was a perfectly executed hunt! Everyone was friendly and willing to help anyone else, and I would recommend it to anyone, horse or not. Even if you just drive up and watch, even if you have never experience anything like this before, I recommend that you do.
In fact, here is a list of the next meets, just for you. So if you are looking for something different and exciting on a Sunday, and you are in and around the Midlands, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, I would seriously recommend a day out with these guys!
